Photograph by Timothy Briner
Photographer Timothy Briner set out to document the chaos visited upon several Brooklyn neighborhoods amidst the arrival and aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. By day, Briner made his way through the neighborhoods of East Flatbush, Brownsville, and Canarsie. During the evenings, he returned to document the fallout in his own Brooklyn neighborhood of Ditmas Park. Over several days, Briner captured images of destruction, tragedy and triumph during the most significant weather disaster New York City has ever seen. On October 30th, in the aftermath of Sandy, a large tree blocks a side street in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn.
